Project Description:
OBD has been invited as part of a pre-qualified Investment Consortia to submit Technical and Financial Proposals for the development of Failaka Island as a new major tourist destination in the region on a 30 year Build Operate Transfer Basis (BOT).
The total project site of 23 km2 to be designed for re-development with an overall built-up area of 700,000 m2. The project encompasses a wide range of visitor facilities including hotels, chalets and resort housing, commercial and retail outlets, extensive sporting and recreation activities, marinas and sea orientated pursuits, historical and educational opportunities, Government sponsored community support services, and a high level of engineering infrastructure. Artificial water bodies were created within the island with extensive landscape to counter the hot climatic conditions of the region. OBD introduced a concept for the Island which was appreciated by all,including the jury.
